Multiwall polycarbonate sheets are hollow inside with air chambers. They insulate better, weigh less, and are more cost-effective. Impact resistance and light transmission are lower than those of solid sheets. Solid polycarbonate sheets are a single solid layer, similar to glass in appearance. They offer higher impact resistance, higher transparency, and better performance in extreme weather. Typical applications cover industrial roofs, skylights, and high-safety or heavy-duty areas.
If polycarbonate sheets are exposed to direct sunlight for long periods, they will slowly turn yellow. To slow this down, some sheets have a special UV-blocking coating for extra protection. Properly installed with UV protection, they carry a 10-year anti-yellowing warranty and maintain clarity under long-term outdoor exposure.
If your project focuses more on safety and strength, polycarbonate sheets are usually the better choice. They resist high temperatures, are flexible, and are impact-resistant. But the surface is not scratch-resistant, and the price is higher. If you pay more attention to light transmission, surface hardness, and processing convenience, acrylic is a more economical choice, but the impact resistance is obviously weaker than polycarbonate sheets.
For polycarbonate sheets thinner than 1/8 inch, score the surface with a utility knife and snap along the line. For thicker sheets, use a table saw, circular saw, or jigsaw with a fine-tooth blade. Daily cleaning of polycarbonate sheets can be done with mild soap, warm water, and a soft cloth. For deep cleaning, it is recommended to use a dedicated plastic cleaner. Do not use ammonia-containing cleaners, and do not wipe them with a brush or paper towel, as this can easily damage the anti-UV coating on the surface of the sheet.
